Alzheimer’s Disease

Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive condition that damages brain cells and affects how we think, speak, and interact with other people.  It’s the most common cause of dementia which is a group of brain disorders that cause a decline in memory and the reduced ability to perform daily activities.  Alzheimer’s disease its the fifth leading cause of death among adults over age 65 in the United States.  Age increases the risk of getting Alzheimer’s disease although it is rare to get it before the age of 60.  A family history of alzheimer’s raises the risk of getting the disease.  There are no specific known causes of Alzheimer’s but studies have found that people who are more sedentary than physically active people are more likely to develop it.  Research has also found that increased cardio respiratory fitness may help prevent brain atrophy.
