ASTR Pain Relief Cream: Natural Safe Ingredients & Research Studies

When suffering from immense pain, over-the-counter pain medications and topical creams are the treatment of choice by many. What people don’t understand is the fact that these medications only provide temporary pain relief, do not cater to underlying pathologies, and may even cause adverse effects.

Safe for Adults & Children

The Pain Relief Cream offered by the ASTR Institute is devoid of harmful and synthetic ingredients that are otherwise detrimental to health. The cream contains naturally derived ingredients including organic beeswax, organic extra virgin olive oil, organic shea butter, arnica, vitamin D3, and vitamin E. The safety status of these ingredients validates the use of this cream in children and adults with minimal to no side effects. [1]

The following sections will demonstrate how Pain Relief Cream ingredients cure different health ailments and relieve pain.

Organic Beeswax

Beeswax is rich in high aliphatic alcohols, six of which are part of a mixture called D-002. D-002 is characterized by anti-inflammatory and anti-nociceptive properties that make beeswax a useful substance for treating inflammatory conditions and achieving pain relief. D-002 suppresses the activity of myeloperoxidase, an enzyme that catalyzes the formation of reactive oxygen species. These substances may cause tissue damage, and promote the onset of pain and inflammation. Beeswax also decreases inflammation by hindering the migration of neutrophils and leukocytes, thus preventing the inflammatory cells from infiltrating the site of tissue damage. This also reduces swelling and other signs of inflammation at the involved site. [2] The anti-inflammatory properties of beeswax also make it useful for the treatment of eczema and psoriasis. [3] Beeswax is also known for its antimicrobial properties. Methanol and ethanol extracts of beeswax are protective against skin infections and acne. [4]

Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Organic extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) contains polyphenols and triterpenes that suppress the activity of cyclooxygenase, an enzyme that catalyzes the formation of prostaglandins. The amount of prostaglandins is directly proportional to pain, therefore, reduced prostaglandins will provide pain relief. One of the phenolic compounds called oleuropein aglycone has greater anti-inflammatory and anti-nociceptive activities as it reduces the stimulatory activity of tumor necrosis factor-alpha concerning monocytes. [5] EVOO polyphenol extract has joint-protective properties that are essential for those who are suffering from rheumatoid and other forms of arthritis. The polyphenol extract inhibits the activity of cyclooxygenase, reduces prostaglandins and other inflammatory mediators, and suppresses signaling pathways associated with arthritis. The extract also reduces damage to the joint by reducing cartilage degradation, bone erosion, and swelling. [6] Various phenolic compounds in olive oil have wound healing properties. These compounds increase the deposition of collagen fibers, promote reepithelization, reduce the levels of inflammatory markers, and protect the cells from oxidative damage. [7] Flavonol quercetin and isoflavone formononetin are two polyphenols found in EVOO that demonstrate greater antibacterial activity, thus protecting against bacterial infections of the skin. [8]

Organic Shea Butter

Methanolic extract of shea butter is responsible for modulating inflammation. The shea butter extract reduces inflammatory cytokines and inhibits the pro-inflammatory enzymes such as nitric oxide synthase and cyclooxygenase. [9] Shea butter is used as a topical moisturizer for the treatment of atopic dermatitis or eczema, in conjunction with other moisturizing substances. [10] Application of shea butter on burn wounds enhance healing by eliciting an immune response, infiltration of inflammatory cells, and formation of proper granulation tissue. Hair roots and layers of epidermis at the involved site also demonstrate growth. [11]

Arnica

Arnica is a famous homeopathic medication used for reducing inflammation including swelling and bruising at the injured site as well as accelerating recovery and alleviating pain. Arnica reduces edema and modulates the levels of inflammatory mediators including histamine and prostaglandin. [12] Crude extract of arnica inhibits the production of nitric oxide and tumor necrosis factor-alpha as well as promotes the synthesis of anti-inflammatory cytokines. Arnica increases the number of anti-inflammatory macrophages and reduces the level of pro-inflammatory cells in the inflamed tissue. These analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects of arnica provide pain relief in conditions such as osteoarthritis, low back pain, and other musculoskeletal conditions. [13] Arnica promotes wound healing by elevating macrophage metabolism and inducing the polarization of IL-4 macrophages that are responsible for wound healing. Arnica increases the gene expression of fibronectin, an extracellular matrix protein that regulates the cell process, establishes tissue architecture, induces platelet aggregation, and promotes the growth of blood vessels in the granulation tissue. [14]

Vitamin D3

The body converts vitamin D into its active form called vitamin D3 that reduces pro-inflammatory markers but elevates the levels of anti-inflammatory mediators. [15] Vitamin D3 regulates the production and function of keratinocytes and has protective effects on the skin. It reduces the levels of inflammatory cytokines in the psoriatic lesions and improves inflammation in psoriasis. The ability to suppress the immune system also validates the use of vitamin D3 or calcitriol for atopic dermatitis. Vitamin D3 strengthens the skin barrier and promotes the antimicrobial activity of the skin peptides. It also reduces the production of IgE and associated cutaneous reactions. As it modulates the immune response, vitamin D3 is also beneficial for autoimmune conditions including rheumatoid arthritis, reducing pain and inflammation. [16]

Vitamin E

Vitamin E has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties which are useful for the treatment and management of psoriasis, cutaneous ulcers, and burn wounds. Vitamin E scavenges free radicals and reactive oxygen species, minimizing oxidative damage to the tissues and accelerating wound healing. [17] Alpha-tocopherol suppresses lipid peroxidation, thus, reducing the levels of peroxides that would otherwise cause inflammation and oxidative damage in acne. [18] Vitamin E has anti-arthritic effects as it neutralizes free radicals, promotes the production of antioxidant enzymes, and inhibits the signaling pathways associated with joint destruction. This makes vitamin E an effective substance for the treatment of osteoarthritis, reducing pain and inflammation. [19]

Conclusion

For pain relief medications to be entirely effective, they shall not be associated with severe side effects and must tackle pain at its roots. The Pain Relief Cream offered by the ASTR Institute is rich in naturally-derived ingredients that modulate the inflammatory and other signaling pathways, underlying chronic pain conditions. The ingredients accelerate wound healing, alleviate pain, improve swelling and bruising, protect against oxidative damage, and improve dermatologic conditions such as eczema and psoriasis.
