What is Occupational Therapy?
Occupational therapy is a field of medicine that teaches people with physical, mental, or cognitive impairments to adapt and perform activities of daily living and work skills. This helps patients to become as independent as possible, despite their ailments. Some common interventions used by occupational therapists include adapting the environment, modifying activities, teaching new skills, and educating family and friends to increase independence.
Occupational Therapy Education?
Education: To become a certified occupational therapist in the United States, one must have a Master’s degree in occupational therapy and pass a licensing exam.
Specialties: There are currently 4 recognized specialties of occupational therapy: pediatrics, geriatrics, mental health, and physical rehabilitation. There are additional certifications in occupational therapy are available as well.
