Ankylosing Spondylitis

Ankylosing Spondylitis is a systemic type of inflammatory disease or arthritis that affects the spine, sometimes fusing vertebrae together.  Fused vertebrae causes a forward hunched posture and there is no cure for ankylosing spondylitis.  Early diagnosis and treatment can reduce the risk of deformity and decrease symptoms.  Ankylosing spondylitis can affect the ribs as well and make breathing painful.  It has an unknown cause and genetic is suspected to play a role.
