Adhesions

Adhesions are fibrous bands that form after an injury or surgery. They can form between tissues and organs that are normally not connected. Adhesions are internal scar tissue and the term “adhesions” is used when the band extends from one tissue to another. Adhesions are part of the body’s natural healing process.  It usually forms due to an injury sustained on adjacent surfaces.

Very little adhesions cause any issues, but can create issues further down the road. The two separate surfaces that are connected by the adhesion may be limited in their movement and may cause organs to become twisted or pulled.
