Radial Tunnel Syndrome: Causes, Symptoms & Treatment 

What is Radial Tunnel Syndrome?

The cause of radial tunnel syndrome is caused by an increase of pressure being put on the radial nerve which runs past the bones and muscles of the forearm and elbow.  Friction caused by the compression by the muscles in the forearm cause the radial nerve to become inflamed and irritated. Radial tunnel syndrome will rarely cause numbness or tingling in the arm or hand because the radial nerve affects the muscles. 

Radial Tunnel Syndrome Causes 

1. Injury to the arm
2. Fatty tumors, also known as lipomas (noncancerous)
3. Bone tumors 
4. Inflammation of the surrounding tissue

Radial Tunnel Syndrome Symptoms 

• Piercing or stabbing pain at the top of the forearm or in the back of the hand, especially when trying to straighten the wrist and fingers.
