Physical Therapy (PT) Billing Codes
Physical therapy billing can be overwhelming. In order to receive compensation for services, you will need to have the latest version of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD) code set. To bill for certain treatment there are different codes to apply, from the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT). CPT codes communicate information about medical services and procedures.
CPT is owned by the American Medical Association (AMA), and these codes are specific to the physician using them. Each treatment is categorized and then placed into a code. This helps with reimbursement, and although a provider can legally bill for a treatment, this does mean the payer will reimburse for it. Clinicians are able to bill any code as long as they can legally provide that service under state law.
