Sports Hernia 

Sports hernia is when the muscles in the groin area tear.  This type of hernia generally occurs in people who play sports such as, ice hockey, soccer, or tennis.  This is due to intense twisting movements and sudden change in directions.  A sports hernia can also occur due to overuse of the groin muscles, causing stress on the inguinal wall.  In general, almost any activity that causes an increase of pressure eon the abdomen causes a sports hernia, if treatment is not seemed, a sports hernia may become chronic, or have disabling pain that prevents an individual from resuming sports activities. 

Sports Hernia Causes

  • Both pressure and opening or weakness of muscle or fascia 
  • Muscle weakness 
  • Poor nutrition 
  • Smoking
  • Overuse/ Overexertion 
  • Obesity 
  • Constipation 
  • Persistent coughing or sneezing 

Sports Hernia Symptoms 

  • Pain located in the groin
  • There may be no visible budge, but overtime may lead to an inguinal hernia which forms a visible bulge
