Acupuncture: Definition, Theory, Uses & Treatment
What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese practice that involves sticking a very thin needles into certain points on the body to alleviate pain as well as other physical, mental, and emotional conditions.
Acupuncture Theory
The theory for acupuncture is that the body has these meridians through which our energy flows. Acupuncture is used to re-balance the energy flow in the body to increase the body’s natural painkillers and increase blood flow. A licensed acupuncturist administers these treatments.
What does Acupuncture Treat?
Acupuncture can treat dental pain, fibromyalgia, labor pain, low back pain, neck pain, headaches, and other conditions and diseases.
How is Acupuncture used?
The acupuncturist will place the thin needles into acu-points on the patient’s body according to their symptoms. They may insert 5-20 needles in an effort to rebalance the energy flow in the body. There might be a mild ache during insertion of the needles. The needles will be left in for about 10-20 minutes as you relax.
